Both of these kids are under the age of consent. Regardless of that, both admitted that the sex was consensual. 

Despite both of them admitting that, only the guy is being charged with rape.

Labeling this as rape is a slap in the face of every child who has had an adult force themselves onto them, a slap to every victim of a gang rape, a slap to every prisoner of war whose captors used rape as a method of torture, a slap to every person who’s been roofied and been taken advantage of…

This is a joke, and it sure as hell isn’t funny.

Have you people never heard of statutory rape? It’s a real bloody thing, and deserves to be recognised as such.

Fourteen and twelve? Not okay. Whether she thinks she consented or not, the fact is that she is not legally able to do so for FOUR YEARS, (or six, depending on where she lives) and there is a reason for that. No twelve year old is capable of deciding whether or not they are physically or emotionally ready to be having sexual intercourse. At twelve, she may not have even gone through puberty yet, thus making this a case of a teenage boy having sex with a child. 

You don’t see that as rape? I am more than a little concerned for your mindset.

Children should not be having sex, not with adults, not with teens, not with other children. He chose to violate a twelve year old child? Good, I’m glad he’s being charged with rape. He should think himself lucky that his record most likely be wiped clean at eighteen.

Are you insane? Are you really that unbelievably dense and sexist? You really think his two years on her gives him any more experience or responsibility in decision making? He’s a child. She’s a child. Neither of them should be having sex, and no one said they should be, but to hold one child accountable for a mutual decision while looking at the other as an innocent, violated victim only perpetuates the idea that women are too stupid to make their own decisions. Why does her violation take precedence over his? Why is he suddenly an adult at 14 and a girl not? Because you know if these ages were swapped, nothing would be done about it. He is just as much a child as she is. But he’s at fault because he has a dick? Both should be punished or neither. You are stupid. You are sexist.

This speech made me cry. I don’t think the House of Representatives is worthy of a man of this integrity.
